The little trooper

So far, Cole has been incredibly easy-going, which has enabled us to be very mobile, and has also allowed Franny to continue participating in her activities. Cole just comes along; sometimes he sleeps and sometimes he's awake, but with very few exceptions, he is very even-tempered and patient. Even in the late afternoons, when many babies get fussy, Cole is the little trooper. This week, when I took Franny to play in the Bethany Fountain, Cole rode along, enduring the 90 degree heat and constant spray of mist with this big, beautiful smile. At times like this, when I see Franny grinning ear to ear and playing with her best friend, that Cole becomes not only the little trooper, but my hero, as well.

Cole's new toy

For the last several weeks, I've had a black, red, and white activity gym for Cole to use. While it did pique his interest, his response has really been less than enthusiastic. Today, I finally pulled out the other activity gym we have that has bright colors, as well as a music box. I was surprised to find that he absolutely loves it. He cooed and smiled and looked around at everything for close to 30 minutes. It may prove to be my newest ally for multi-tasking with two children. I just hope the interest continues!

Blue eyes smilin' at me; nothin' but blue eyes, do I see

Warning to regular blog viewers: there will unquestionably be A LOT of smiling Cole images, since I cannot get enough! These blue eyes have stolen my heart!

Playing possum

Sometimes, it seems that Cole just closes his eyes and pretends to be asleep. Usually, he does this when the house is in a state of complete chaos. This is typically in the late afternoon, although it can happen at anytime, depending on the temperament of one big sister. I'll be holding him, and everything will start to get loud and rowdy, and then I'll look down, to see him tightly shut his eyes and press his lips together briefly, and then relax, feigning a blissful slumber. I know he's not really asleep, so I frequently tease that he is hiding from us. And, to be honest, if positions were reversed, I'd probably want to hide too! Eventually, though, I am sure he learn to thrive in the tumultuous upheaval that Franny and I have learned to call routine.
